Supporting the Special Child
A two-day, hands-on training for parents, family carers and practitioners. You leave with three routines you can actually do at home — a calm-breath routine, a bedtime supportive-touch routine, and a movement-and-breath sequence — and a simple sheet to keep your own record over twelve weeks.
14 – 15 November 2026 · Saturday and Sunday · 10:00 AM – 5:30 PM both days · Taught in English by Vedhan Sri
Why these two days exist
Most of what gets called behaviour is a nervous system with no volume knob.
Your own nervous system throws away almost everything coming in — your shirt on your skin, the fan, the traffic outside. You never notice any of it. In many children that throwing-away works less well. They are receiving all of it, at full volume, all day.
And the brakes are lighter than the accelerator. The system starts fast and stops slowly. One loud noise, and coming back down takes far longer than it would take you.
Often they cannot tell you any of this. So it comes out in the only language left.
This workshop is about the settling. Not techniques to perform on a child, but the state you bring, the breath you can share, and a way of touching that a sensitive body accepts. Everything else is built on that.
Who these two days are for
Two kinds of people in the room
Parents and family carers
You are already doing this work every day, without a break. You are not here to be taught about your own child. You are here for a few things you can do that are calm, short, and repeatable — and for two days in a room with people who do not need it explained.
Therapists and practitioners
You already have hands. What this adds is the state the work is delivered in, the order to do it in, where to stop, and how to hand the routine to a family so it survives the week without you.
Children do not attend. Adults learn on each other, and on dolls and cushions, so that every mistake happens here and not at home. This is a training for the adults who care for a child, and it is deliberately built that way.
The families this workshop is meant to support include those living with autism, ADHD, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, and developmental or sensory differences.
What you take home
Three routines and a sheet
- A 5-minute calm-breath routineGentle breathing you can lead — bee-song humming, candle exhale, belly-buddy, bubble breathing. Nothing fast, nothing held.
- A 20-minute bedtime supportive-touch routineA settled, predictable sequence for the end of the day: song, gentle bee breaths, the touch routine, the points your child accepts, a still hand, and the diary line.
- A 30-minute movement-and-breath sequenceA fixed order you can repeat: OM, warm-up, six animal postures, Bhramari, belly breathing, relaxation, closing song.
And a one-page home-observation sheet — settling time, night waking, touch tolerance, pulse, breathing rate, and one thing you choose to watch — so that over twelve weeks you have your own record instead of a feeling.
These are skills and routines you learn to do. They are not a promised result for your child.
Said plainly, before you decide
What this is not
- It does not treat, cure or reverse autism, ADHD, cerebral palsy or any other diagnosis.
- It does not reduce the severity of a condition, and it does not correct developmental delay.
- It does not promise better sleep, calmer behaviour or any sensory change.
- It does not replace your child’s doctor, therapy or school support. It sits beside them.
- Nobody here will diagnose your child, and nobody will tell you what your child has.
- No internal medicines are given, prescribed or discussed as treatment.
What it is: calming routines, sensory comfort, and something you and your child do together at home — built on traditional Siddha Varmam touch and gentle yogic breathing, and taught as wellness education.
The two days, hour by hour
Every hour of it is practice
Day 1 · Saturday 14 November · Understand, breathe, move
| 10:00 | Arrival. OM three times. Introductions in pairs, around one question: what does your child do when they are overwhelmed? |
| 10:30 | Reading the state. Higher-energy and lower-energy states, and how to tell them apart. The Arousal Thermometer. Choosing where to start today rather than where you planned to start. |
| 11:30 | Tea |
| 11:45 | Gentle breathing. Bee-song humming, candle exhale, belly-buddy, bubble breathing — and which breathing methods we deliberately leave out, and why. Practice in threes until you can lead the 5-minute routine. |
| 13:00 | Lunch |
| 14:00 | Guided relaxation and body-awareness reflection. |
| 14:30 | The 30-minute movement sequence. OM, warm-up, six animal postures, Bhramari five times, belly breathing, relaxation, closing song. Full practice, then you teach it back. |
| 16:00 | Tea |
| 16:15 | When sitting still is not possible. Model instead of instructing. Props. Three-breath turns. The same cues every time. Adapting to the state in front of you. Role-play, and your Home Plan card. |
| 17:00 | Your own paced breathing. Closing circle. Tonight’s home trial: the calm-breath routine. |
Day 2 · Sunday 15 November · Touch, sleep, measure, plan
| 10:00 | OM three times. What happened last night — the home-practice debrief. |
| 10:20 | Supportive touch, first pass. Touch tolerance. Reading touch-averse and touch-seeking. The downward whole-body pat-and-press structure, demonstrated in full while the order and the pressure are explained. |
| 11:30 | Tea |
| 11:45 | Second pass, with correction. You give and receive the routine with a checklist, and your pressure is corrected by hand. Then the gentle Varmam layer as an optional addition — three head and neck points, light finger-pad pressure, ten to thirty seconds each — and, just as carefully, when not to use them at all. |
| 13:00 | Lunch |
| 14:00 | Reset: bee-song humming, and the still-hand-on-the-back exercise in pairs. |
| 14:30 | Third pass, on a doll or cushion, filmed. Then you build your own 20-minute bedtime routine: song, gentle bee breaths, the touch routine, the points your child accepts, a still hand, the diary. |
| 15:30 | Tea |
| 15:45 | Keeping your own record. The sleep diary and the weekly one-page sheet: settling time, night waking, touch tolerance, pulse, breathing rate, and one behaviour you choose. |
| 16:30 | Safety, and the words. Stop signs. When a doctor’s clearance comes first. What to say to a grandparent, a teacher or a doctor. Your twelve-week Home Plan. |
| 17:10 | Closing commitment. OM. Planning the follow-up call. |
Safety is taught, not mentioned
Where we stop
Bring a doctor’s clearance first if your child has any of these
- Seizures or epilepsy
- Asthma or breathing problems
- A heart condition
- Low muscle tone with swallowing or airway difficulty
Stop signs — you stop, every time, the first time
- A seizure or an absence episode
- Blue lips or breathlessness
- Dizziness or tingling during breathing
- Rising distress, self-injury or new panic
- Pain, bruising or a skin reaction
- Vomiting after abdominal strokes
Not taught here, deliberately
No fast breathing. No breath-holding. No Adangal. No Ilakku. No forceful Varmam. No head tapping. No shirodhara, nasya or basti. No internal medicines. No diagnosis.
And the rule underneath all of it: if a child does not want to be touched somewhere, you do not touch them there. The child owns the stop signal, and you honour it the first time. You tell them before you touch, every time. You work through the parent’s hands wherever you can — a familiar body is safer than a skilled stranger.

Questions
Before you book
Can I bring my child?
No. Children do not attend. You will practise on other adults and on dolls and cushions, so that the first time you do it with your child, you already know what you are doing.
Will this help my child?
We cannot promise that, and we will not. What we can tell you is exactly what you will learn to do, and give you a simple sheet so you can see for yourself, over twelve weeks, whether anything changes in your own home.
My child is already in therapy. Does this replace it?
No. It sits beside it. If a doctor, therapist or teacher asks what you are doing, the honest answer is “a calming routine we do at home”.
I am not a parent — I am a practitioner. Is this for me?
Yes. The room is deliberately mixed. You will work with parents in pairs, which is also the best preparation for working with families afterwards.
Do I need a partner to come with me?
No. Everyone is paired in the room.
Do both parents need to come?
Not at all — one is enough. If you would both like to attend, there is a place for two parents from the same family; choose that option when you register. It takes two of the 25 places.
Is lunch provided?
Yes. A vegetarian lunch is included on both days, along with tea and biscuits.
Do I get a certificate?
Yes, a participation certificate.
Which language is it taught in?
The main program is conducted in English. Where needed during practice, guidance may also be provided in Hindi, Kannada, Tamil and Telugu.
What if my child has seizures, asthma, a heart condition, or swallowing difficulty?
Please bring a doctor’s clearance before you begin the touch and breath work at home. Tell us at registration so we can make sure the safety section covers your situation properly.
How do I reach you?
Write to connect@vedhansri.com.
This is wellness education, not medical treatment. It does not replace advice from your doctor. Results vary from person to person.
